COVID-19 Response

Student Innovation Center COVID-19 Response

The Student Innovation Center has taken precautions based on the latest Iowa State University campus policies, consultations with the ISU Office of Risk Management, health guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), other public health organizations, and staff input. We remain committed to the health and safety of center visitors, and our goal is to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 to the greatest extent possible. With that in mind, we have plans in place to help mitigate possible spread, while maintaining access to center facilities and services.

Cyclones Care

The university worked with Ames and Story County on a coordinated social responsibility campaign – “Cyclones Care”.  This messaging is conveyed uniformly around campus. You will see coordinated signage that reinforces the campaign’s four key behaviors:

  • Wear a face covering
  • Wash or sanitize hands often
  • Maintain physical distancing of at least 6 feet (2 meters)
  • Stay home when ill

face covering

Face coverings are required throughout the center.

Please review ISU’s face covering policy. It’s a good idea to keep a face covering handy at all times, and make sure to wear it correctly – covering both your mouth and nose.

social distancing

All rooms and spaces in the Student Innovation Center will operate at 50 percent occupancy.

The center has rearranged areas and relocated seating, to facilitate physical distancing while accommodating the need for student study spaces.

Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer when soap and water is not readily available.

Hand sanitizer is available throughout the Student Innovation Center. Frequent use is encouraged.

If you feel ill or experience any of the below symptoms, stay home.

Fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea.

Stickers note for visitors which individual seats and table spaces are unavailable. Additional precautions were taken, and signs are posted to guide and simplify physical distancing. Be on the lookout for these directional signs: •    Keep to the right – on doors and staircases. •    Floor decals mark the route to Sparks. •    Entrances and exits are noted for the building and classrooms. •    Some seats and table spaces are marked DO NOT USE. •    Room capacity is noted and limited. •    Elevator capacity is modified for social distancing.

Food/Beverages at the Student Innovation Center

Food and beverages are prohibited throughout the center unless consumed in the designated area near Sparks Café on the fourth floor of the center (see center map). While eating, please maintain a minimum of 6-feet of distance from other diners.

Enhanced cleaning

Hand sanitizer, spray cleaner, and paper towels are available on tables for use throughout the building.  Frequent use is encouraged. We ask that center visitors use the materials provided to disinfect high-touch areas and table surfaces before and after use.
